Green philosophy Our Commitment to Sustainability and Our Community

The world as we know it has limited resources and conserving them for future generations is vital for the continual existence of mankind and even the continuity of life on earth. As an empathetic and responsible Resort, we greatly emphasize sustainability – to contribute to creating a better world through sustainable resource management and other thoughtful solutions.

  • The effluent treatment plant at Sri Sharavi allows us to treat the onsite wastewater. The treated water is then used for garden irrigation, and all garden sweepings and other tree clippings from our gardens are composted in a traditional above-ground compost pile, where the product compost is also used as a nutrient-rich soil enhancer in the hotel gardens.

  • Setting in motion the wheels for a sustainable future, Sri Sharavi substitutes disposable single-use plastics with reusable glass bottles, stainless steel straws, and recyclable bedroom and spa amenities. These efforts underscore the hotel’s commitment to creating a more environmentally conscious future.

  • Sri Sharavi is at the heart of local culture, with the premise of providing guests with an authentic local experience in each location. Local cuisine is the primary offering of the restaurant, offering tourists the opportunity to experience exotic local cuisine prepared to five-star standards. The hotels also serve many meat-free and vegan dishes.

  • Minimizing laundry usage by requesting guests to use the bed linen for 3 days and towels to be placed on the floor if required to change throughout their stay.

  • Sri Sharavi is acutely aware that the commitment to sustainability is ongoing and requires continuous improvement. As the hotels expand their operations, we pledge to extend our implementation of solar energy and regular neighbourhood and beach clean-ups.

  • Drawing from the principles of tropical architecture to best suit the Sri Lankan climate, the restaurants and lobby areas have been designed to have free air circulation, without air-conditioning, to minimize emissions and high energy use.

  • Sri Sharavi increases energy efficiency through low-energy light fittings (LED), sensors, and motion detectors throughout the Resort, and we request our guests to help save energy by switching off lights and AC when leaving the rooms.
